David began playing bass in his brother's band which turned out to be 1980's experimental ensemble Primitive Art Group. He was part of Six Volts with Janet and Steve and has played in numerous bands. He and Steve produced 5 albums of their own music under the moniker Thrashing Marlin and their new album Wildlife was launched in October 2022. They have been part of Wellington super group The Labcoats whose last album O Potassium came out in 2015.

Janet Roddick

Janet studied singing and has a BMus in Voice from Otago, a Certificate in Executant Music from Wellington Polytechnic and plays trombone and piano. She has made numerous International Arts Festival performances in contemporary music theatre roles, some composed specially for her. She is known for her interpretations of the songs of Kurt Weill along with her usual collaborators and David Long, Chris O'Connor and Jeff Henderson. She was singing coach for the dwarves during the filming of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and sings This Wandering Day in ep 5 of The Lord Of The Rings: Rings Of Power.

Stephen Roche

Steve was The Trumpet Player around Wellington back in the mid 1980s and joined Six Volts to show off his improvisational skills. In addition to trumpet he plays euphonium, guitar, mandolin, banjo, marimba and fiddle and he sings. He and David have released 5 albums as Thrashing Marlin with Wildlife released this year. Steve joins Toby Laing as the horn section for the Labcoats and they released a second album in 2015.
